How was your night?

Last night qualified for one of the LONGEST nights of my life.
Gray, as everyone knows hasn't been feeling well.
Here is the rundown of our night:
I went to bed at 11pm.
Gray woke up screaming at 11:30.
Brought him in bed, Zach excused himself to the guest room.
Came downstairs at 12am and gave him more medicine.
Finally, we fell asleep on the couch watching Little Bear at 12:30 or so.
Woke up at 1:45, he was out so I put him in his bed.
Gray woke up screaming again at 4:30.
We headed back downstairs to change his diaper and give him a bottle.
Gave him more medicine when it was time.
Put him down for a nap at 7 or so.
HE IS SCREAMING AGAIN at 7:30.
I am sooooo tired. He must be too.
I sure hope he gets feeling better soon. He just is miserable.
He has been getting up at 5:30 the past few days with really no naps. Let's hope this passes soon, or I am going to have to go to bed at 7 tonight in preparation for the LONG night I am bound to have.

One year later...

A year ago today, Gray was admitted to the NICU in Children's Hospital. Usually, this wouldn't be a date that I would be thinking about days in advance. The days prior and the 10 days at the hospital were some of the hardest days I have been through. The first couple of days we were there the radio station Alice 105.9 was there doing their 36 hours of Miracles. They have tables set up and the DJ's are there answering the phones. Well, that is going on now and I have been listening to all the stories that these sweet kids go through. This has brought up all the emotions that I was feeling, and honestly I don't think I let out during that time because I was so scared.

What also doesn't help is that Gray is sick right now. It is so sad. Just laying with me on my bed, on the couch or on the floor. He is older and bigger now, but still the same time a year ago we were in the NICU. I know this isn't as severe as then, but I am so protective of him. I don't like seeing him uncomfortable, whether big or small. He is such a blessing to our family. He makes me smile, laugh and happy to be his mom. I am thankful for all the doctors, nurses, the flight team who took us in the ambulance to the hospital and who took such great care of him, his pediatrician (who is so amazing), our families, friends and all the prayers.

I just want to say that yes I understand how emotional I am about this topic. It could be all the hormones I am experiencing with this pregnancy, just ask Zach. Good thing he got a break from crazy Kelly the past few days (he is in Dallas for a Sales meeting). Anywho, it was an emotional time pregnant or not.

Alright, I got that out and I have probably scared you all or made you feel sorry for Zach right now. Sorry I didn't post a picture of Gray or haven't been posting pictures lately. My computer won't read my memory card and I haven't called to get a new disc. Sorry.

New fact about Gray

So this past weekend Gray had is rough. One Friday, I was in the kitchen frosting cookies and Gray is a mover now ALL over the house. He enjoys playing in the front room now. I could hear him and I thought he was playing with all the toys Asher and Cohen brought in there. When I finished frosting a cookie, I felt I needed to go check on him. I walk around the corner and he had pulled off the home fragrance plug in (he LOVES to do this now). If you have those you know that if they tip over they leak. Well the plug was on the ground and I could see where it leaked on the floor. I pick up Gray and his hands and around his mouth smell like my plug in. I knew he didn't drink it, but I was unsure of how much if any he got in his mouth. He seemed fine so I waited...took Cohen to school...put him down for a nap when we got back. I knew I wouldn't be able to shake this feeling until I called his pediatrician. Called and left a message, still not feeling better yet so I called Poison Control and talked to a great lady and she asked a few questions like if he was coughing or having trouble breathing-which he wasn't. So I was to just watch out for those symptoms for the next 24 hours. Anywho, to make a long story short he was fine.
Once Gray turned 1, I got the go ahead with peanut butter, whole milk and honey from his doctor. I have given peanut butter sandwiches several times and he had no reaction. I then started to put honey on it and he was fine...until Saturday. I made him a sandwich and he of course gets all sorts of dirty now. I went up and gave him a bath and he is all sorts of crazy in the bath now and some soap I thought got in his eye, causing it to be red. I thought that was it. Then, last night I made another peanut butter and honey sandwich and not half way through it, his face was red, he couldn't stop rubbing his eyes and they were getting a little swollen. I went up and bathed him again and he just couldn't stop rubbing his eyes and more of his face was irritated. So we gave him some Benadryl and slowly he was back to normal. I didn't take a picture, wished I would have now but I was feeling sooooo guilty that I did it to him twice.
So, best mom award? Man, I still feel so bad about it.

Gray is a crawler...

I don't have a picture because my computer is not reading my camera card but I wanted to document it before I forgot. Gray is crawling a little. He will get it a good shot for 4 steps and then moves into rolling motion. He also is getting on his knees and has stood himself up a time or two against toy boxes or legs. He is growing up way too fast. We love our little guy. I will get pictures posted as soon as I get a new disc for my computer.

Cohen's little dog

I wish I could remember what we were watching to bring this on. But whatever it was made him get his little pet dog and give him a plate of food. He sat by his dog while he ate?.? He also taught me how to hold him. Not to squeeze too tight. It was pretty darn funny. I should have blogged about it after, but cute picture with out the story.

Got Meat?

Yearly we buy a cow, splitting it in 4's with my siblings. This year we not only got our quarter of a cow but decided to get a hog as well. Needless to say that we have plenty of meat, now the challenge is to use it. It is very handy to go out to our freezer and get steaks, roasts, bacon, brats, hamburger meat, and so on. I am happy to say that since I took this picture we have made a dent in our supply.
